Bapenda DKI Building Fire Case Transferred to Polda Metro Jaya
The Gambir Metro Police have transferred the handling of the fire case at the Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda DKI) building to the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya for further investigation.
The Head of Public Relations of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Iptu Erlyn Sumantri, said the transfer of the case was carried out on Monday (10/8).
“So, currently the process is being carried out by Polda Metro Jaya, it has been transferred from Gambir Metro Police to the Ditreskrimum Polda Metro,” said Erlyn when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He revealed that a crime scene investigation is currently being carried out by a joint team of officers from the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Polda Metro Jaya, and the National Police Forensic Laboratory Centre (Puslabfor).
The crime scene investigation process was still ongoing inside the building on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Erlyn, the examination is being carried out to uncover the cause of the fire that gutted part of the Bapenda DKI Jakarta building from the 11th to the 16th floor.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Gambir Metro Police, AKP Arfan Rawung, confirmed that the handling of the case has been transferred to Polda Metro Jaya.
“Yes, it was transferred to Polda Metro yesterday, it is currently being handled by Polda Metro Jaya,” said Arfan.
He said the results of the examination and the latest findings from the crime scene investigation with Puslabfor will be conveyed by Polda Metro Jaya.
“Later the results (of the crime scene investigation) and all information will be directly conveyed by Polda Metro Jaya,” he said.
It is known that the fire occurred on Friday (7/8) evening and gutted the area from the 11th to the 16th floor of the Bapenda DKI Jakarta building.
Police officers together with the National Police Puslabfor took a number of ash and charcoal samples from three points in the Bapenda DKI Jakarta building affected by the fire.
The examination was focused on the 11th floor, which is the archive room, as well as the 12th and 16th floors. The samples will then be examined to help determine the source and initial cause of the fire.
Police previously also had not confirmed any connection between renovation work on the 11th to 14th floors and the fire incident.
