The Banjarmasin Class I Correctional Guidance Centre (Bapas) provided escort and accompaniment services to a teenager in conflict with the law (ABH), identified as RM, who was suspected of committing rape. On Monday 9 March, Purwanto Hari Saputro, a Junior Expert Community Guidance Officer at Bapas Banjarmasin, accompanied RM during questioning at Banjarmasin Police Station. RM was also accompanied by his mother and legal counsel during the examination.

“The accompaniment we provide ensures not only that the legal process runs according to procedure, but also investigates the child’s social and family conditions through a community research study (litmas). This is important so that the rehabilitation recommendations given truly match the child’s needs,” explained Purwanto in a statement on Tuesday 10 March 2026.

Purwanto conducted data collection through a community research interview with RM and subsequently interviewed the teenager’s mother. “The purpose of the interview is to assess the social and family conditions, and the readiness of the environment to support the child’s rehabilitation,” stated Purwanto.

The litmas stage represents a critical phase in ensuring that rehabilitation programme proposals for RM align with actual field conditions. The research also serves as the basis for determining the appropriate rehabilitation steps for RM.

“I am grateful to Bapas Banjarmasin for accompanying my child during the examination. With this accompaniment, we felt recognised and guided in facing the legal process that is currently underway,” said RM’s mother, identified as AN.

The litmas will continue with visits to the neighbourhood surrounding the teenager’s residence. Purwanto will coordinate with community leaders and relevant parties to ensure community support for and suitability of the rehabilitation process.

In a separate statement, Nirhono Jatmokoadi, Head of Bapas Banjarmasin, emphasised that the institution is present to ensure that every child in conflict with the law continues to receive protection, accompaniment, and the opportunity to improve themselves. “Through comprehensive litmas and accompaniment, we hope that the legal process being conducted will continue to prioritise the best interests of the child,” he said.
