Bapanas Optimises Food Kiosks to Ensure Consumer Price Stability

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Food Agency (Bapanas) is optimising Food Kiosks across various regions to maintain price stability at the consumer level by providing quality staple foods with adequate and affordable supplies for the public.

“Food Kiosks are being developed to ensure the public can obtain staple food ingredients at fair prices, with good quality and available supply,” said Maino Dwi Hartono, Director of Food Supply and Price Stabilisation at Bapanas, in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday.

Bapanas is ensuring that various food stabilisation instruments operate effectively down to the community level. One of these is strengthening Food Kiosks as food distribution hubs offering a range of staple commodities at affordable prices.

He said the Food Kiosk is one of the government’s strategic instruments for bringing food access closer to the public while maintaining price stability at the consumer level through the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation (SPHP) programme via Food Kiosks.

“That is why we continue to develop the programme by engaging relevant stakeholders, including food and non-food suppliers as well as Himbara (state-owned banks association) to support financing, so that this programme runs optimally and its benefits are truly felt by the public,” said Maino.

According to him, the presence of Food Kiosks not only provides a more affordable shopping alternative, but also opens up business opportunities for the public, particularly SMEs and small shop owners who need food supplies at competitive prices.

As of July 2026, Maino continued, a total of 2,987 Food Kiosks have been developed, spread across 35 provinces and 160 regencies/cities, with expansion continuing to strengthen public access to safe, quality and affordable food.

The programme is one of the government’s food stabilisation instruments, alongside the Cheap Food Movement (GPM), Food Distribution Facilitation (FDP), the distribution of SPHP rice, and food aid.

The strengthening of Food Kiosks is also taking place amid increasingly robust national food conditions. The government currently holds Government Rice Reserves (CBP) of more than 5 million tonnes, the highest in Indonesia’s history.

With such solid food reserves, the government has greater room for intervention in maintaining the stability of food supply and prices across various regions.

He noted that various staple food commodities such as rice, cooking oil, consumption sugar, wheat flour, eggs from layer hens, broiler chicken meat, and assorted vegetables are the most sought-after commodities at the Food Kiosks.

“Because they are offered at prices more affordable than market prices, while still maintaining good quality,” Maino explained.
