Bapanas Extends Food Assistance Distribution Until June
The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has extended the deadline for distributing rice and cooking oil assistance allocated for February-March 2026 until June. The extension aims to ensure all recipients fully receive their entitlements.
“During a technical coordination meeting (Rakornis) at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, it was decided to extend food assistance until June,” said Bapanas Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilisation, I Gusti Ketut Astawa, confirmed in Jakarta on Monday, 25 May 2026, as reported by Antara.
The government confirmed that implementing the food assistance program contributes to stabilising food prices, including cooking oil.
Bapanas, in collaboration with Perum Bulog, is committed to continuing the distribution of the extended food assistance until June.
Astawa explained that extending the food assistance program until June is necessary as a price stabilisation measure.
“To anticipate rising cooking oil prices, we have instructed Bulog to expedite food assistance distribution as current implementation is at approximately 34 per cent,” he said.
He added that accelerating the distribution of food assistance is crucial for intervening and controlling prices of strategic staple foods amid fluctuating supply and demand.
The government is also working to optimise the availability of Minyakita cooking oil through various distribution channels, including strengthening supplies to public markets to keep prices stable and accessible.
Therefore, Bapanas is urging Bulog to distribute the food assistance in May-June 2026. This distribution is expected to help stabilise rice prices and control cooking oil prices in the market.
The food assistance program includes approximately 132.9 thousand kilolitres of cooking oil. If distributed simultaneously in May-June, this step is expected to have direct and indirect impacts on stabilising Minyakita prices for consumers.
Bapanas noted that the national average price of Minyakita in the second week of May has been decreasing weekly, though it remains slightly above the government-set maximum retail price (HET) of Rp15,700 per litre.
As of 20 May, Bapanas reported that 46.2 thousand kilolitres of Minyakita had been distributed to 11.5 million Beneficiary Families (KPM). A further 86.8 thousand kilolitres remain to be distributed by mid-2026.
According to Bapanas’s Government Food Reserve (CPP) report as of 20 May, cooking oil stock remains sufficient. Bulog manages a total of 89 thousand kilolitres of cooking oil, while ID FOOD holds 700 kilolitres.
“With the food assistance, most of our citizens no longer need to buy cooking oil, as each KPM receives four litres. This is therefore extremely important,” Astawa said.
Bapanas also reported that rice assistance distribution reached 248.4 thousand tonnes as of 21 May 2026.
