Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has confirmed that food availability and price stability in Merauke, South Papua Province, remain secure during the 2026 Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr national religious holiday period.

Bapanas Director of Distribution and Food Reserves Rachmi Widiriani said this assurance was obtained through direct monitoring by the Price Violation, Security and Food Quality Enforcement Task Force (Satgas Saber) in Merauke.

"Monitoring was conducted at a number of strategic points, from slaughterhouses and poultry processing facilities, egg producers, to government-initiated food kiosks," Rachmi said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday (21/2).

She noted that monitoring results showed beef prices in Merauke remained stable at around Rp135,000–140,000 per kilogram, still in line with the government-set Reference Selling Price (HAP).

The producer-level and consumer-level reference prices for ruminant meat are regulated under National Food Agency Regulation Number 12 of 2024. The producer-level reference price for live cattle is set at Rp56,000 to Rp58,000 per kilogram.

This stability is supported by adequate livestock availability and the substitution of alternative protein sources such as deer, goat and pork.

"Even through to the holiday period, prices are projected to remain under control, although there is potential for increases in offal commodities as public demand rises," she said.

Meanwhile, chicken meat availability is also being monitored and remains secure. The Mopah Merauke poultry processing facility is capable of serving poultry slaughtering needs with cold chain support comprising three cold storage units, each with a one-tonne capacity.

In the egg sector, monitoring at one of the major producers showed production reaching approximately 10,000 eggs per day, with prices stable at Rp60,000–65,000 per crate since December 2025.

Egg supplies not only meet Merauke's needs but also reach several other regencies in South Papua, extending to highland areas such as Wamena.

"Producers have confirmed that stocks are secure throughout Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026," Rachmi explained.

Efforts to maintain stability are also reinforced through the operation of a Food Kiosk on Jalan Mandala, Merauke, which provides various staple commodities such as government-priced rice (SPHP), MinyaKita cooking oil, sugar, salt, flour and frozen chicken at below-market prices or in accordance with maximum retail prices and reference prices.

Additionally, during Ramadan, an Affordable Food Drive (GPM) will be held every Friday afternoon in the grounds of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Merauke to help the public obtain affordable food.

She stressed that strengthening of distribution and food reserves continues to ensure supply in eastern Indonesia remains secure.

The National Food Agency has confirmed that distribution flows and government food reserves in South Papua are in a safe condition.

"We are also intensifying the implementation of the Affordable Food Drive, Food Kiosks, and food distribution facilitation to maintain price stability at the consumer level, particularly ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr," she said.

She added that synergy with local governments and food industry players is key to maintaining price affordability and preventing supply disruptions in a region that faces considerable logistical challenges.

Bapanas will continue to strengthen food distribution and price monitoring in South Papua through cross-sector coordination. Intensification of the Affordable Food Drive and optimisation of Food Kiosks and market operations are concrete steps to ensure the public obtains sufficient food at affordable prices.
