The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has confirmed that rice prices remain under control, supported by the strengthening of government rice reserves (CBP) which have reached 5.2 million tonnes to maintain national food stability. Bapanas Principal Secretary Sarwo Edhy stated that the agency’s analysis shows only 55 districts/cities across Indonesia experienced an increase in the Rice Price Development Index (IPH) as of early July 2026, exceeding the highest retail price (HET) for medium-grade rice.

“The rest remain within the HET corridor for medium rice,” Sarwo said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday (9/7/2026). He conveyed that the government continues to maintain rice price stability through the implementation of intervention programmes, with CBP stock recorded at 5.2 million tonnes as of 7 July 2026. With robust food reserves, increasing production, stronger distribution, and collaboration, the government is optimistic that the public’s food needs will continue to be met and national food stability will be well maintained.

“Thus, the government, through Bapanas, believes that rice price stability can be maintained despite the dry season or El Niño,” Sarwo stated. According to Bapanas records, total national CBP intervention since January has reached 1.36 million tonnes, consisting of realised rice sales under the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation (SPHP) programme of 221.05 thousand tonnes in January and February, and a further 431.6 thousand tonnes from March to July.

For the food aid programme allocated for February and March, finalisation was completed by the end of June. The realisation reached 33.14 million beneficiary families with a total of 662.86 thousand tonnes of rice distributed. Additionally, CBP was channelled for the civil servant budget group programme in certain regions totalling 42.43 thousand tonnes and for natural disaster response amounting to 11.37 thousand tonnes. Furthermore, Bapanas, together with regional governments and all stakeholders, has conducted more than 5,573 low-cost food movements (GPM) across 37 provinces and over 378 districts/cities. As a continuation of the food aid programme, the government has decided that the rice food aid programme will be re-implemented starting July 2026 for a three-month allocation period.
