The government has officially processed 150,000 tonnes, which will add to the allocation assigned to state logistics firm Perum Bulog for micro-scale livestock farmers.

Jakarta (ANTARA) — The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has stated that an additional allocation of 150,000 tonnes under the Food Supply and Price Stabilisation (SPHP) programme for feed maize is intended to strengthen supply and support micro-scale poultry farmers.

Head of Bapanas and Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman said the government’s commitment to the national poultry farming ecosystem is being realised through the increased allocation for the SPHP feed maize programme.

“A total of 150,000 tonnes has been officially processed by the government, which will add to the allocation assigned to Perum Bulog for micro-scale farmers,” Amran said when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The first phase of the 2026 SPHP feed maize programme began in early May. The total distribution quota has been set at 213,200 tonnes, covering the feed maize needs of micro, small and medium-scale farmer groups.

The breakdown includes a quota of 138,650 tonnes, based on three months of needs for micro-scale farmer groups; 50,370 tonnes, based on two months of needs for small-scale farmer groups; and 24,170 tonnes, based on one month of needs for medium-scale farmers.

“Now there is an additional allocation again: 150,000 tonnes of SPHP maize,” Amran said.

Bapanas recorded that as of 7 September, the distribution of SPHP feed maize had reached 59.5 per cent of the combined first and second phase target of 241,200 tonnes. In quantitative terms, 143,500 tonnes have been accessed by farmers across 33 provinces.

The regions with the highest number of farmers are East Java with 3,690 farmers and Central Java with 2,017 farmers.

“As long as farmers need it, give it to them. Full stop. No excuses. We will continue Bulog’s SPHP until the end of the year,” Amran affirmed.

With this commitment, the government is ensuring it will continue to safeguard the availability of maize for poultry farmers.

Amran has instructed Bulog to continue serving poultry farmers in need of feed maize at more economical prices.

The feed maize prices set by Bapanas are Rp5,000 per kilogram for collection at Bulog warehouses, and a maximum price of Rp5,500 per kilogram at the farmer level.

Distribution of SPHP feed maize is carried out through cooperatives or associations to members registered in the decree of the Minister of Agriculture.

Distribution to maize production centres must take into account the main harvest period, as well as maize prices at both the farmer and livestock farmer levels. This is important to avoid any negative impact on maize prices falling too low at the local farmer level.

Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) emphasised that the additional SPHP feed maize is intended for poultry farmers who are not corporations. Micro-scale farmers must feel the government’s presence.

“Bulog has maize. We are asking that the maize — the 150,000 tonnes of SPHP maize — be used to supply UMKM (micro, small and medium enterprises) farmers, not the big factories,” Zulhas said.

“So that maize prices remain stable during the lean season. That is why, since Bulog has stocks, we are providing this maize under SPHP. For small and medium-scale farmers, not the big factories,” Zulhas added.

According to Bapanas price monitoring, the national average price of dry shelled maize at the farmer level as of 7 September stood at Rp5,922 per kilogram, or 7.67 per cent above the government purchase price (HPP) of Rp5,500 per kilogram.

The province with the highest average price was Lampung at Rp6,600 per kilogram, whilst North Sumatra recorded the lowest average maize price at Rp5,437 per kilogram.
