Banyumas Regent Ensures Security Readiness for 2026 Eid Homecoming Migration
Purwokerto — Banyumas Regent Sadewo Tri Lastiono has confirmed security readiness for the 2026 Eid homecoming migration through synergy between the local government, TNI, Polri, and various stakeholders to ensure safety and comfort for travellers undertaking the annual homecoming journey.
“We will welcome homecoming travellers together with the TNI, Polri, local government, and all stakeholders, including organisations such as the Indonesian Red Cross and Scouts,” Sadewo said following the Operation Ketupat Candi 2026 troop briefing at the Banyumas City Police Resort headquarters in Purwokerto, Central Java, on Thursday.
According to him, Banyumas Regency is expected to experience increased congestion during the Eid season as it is one of the preferred destinations for homecoming travellers. He noted that he had received information from PT Kereta Api Indonesia Regional Operation 5 Purwokerto that Banyumas was among the top five homecoming destinations for Eid 2026.
“Our information indicates that Banyumas is among the top five favourite destinations for homecoming. So I am confident that congestion in Purwokerto and Banyumas will be extraordinary,” he said.
Sadewo stated that the homecoming migration also generates positive economic impacts for the regency by increasing community economic activity.
“Each homecoming creates a multiplier effect on the economy because it drives economic activity in Purwokerto,” Sadewo said.
The Banyumas Regent has instructed the Banyumas Public Works Office to repair road sections used by homecoming travellers, although this will be carried out in stages according to budget constraints.
“We cannot overlay all roads due to limited budgets, so we will conduct repairs and patching to ensure roads remain smooth for travel,” the regent said.
Meanwhile, Banyumas Police Resort Commander Senior Police Commissioner Petrus Silalahi stated that the Banyumas Police Resort is preparing approximately 822 personnel—two-thirds of its total force—to support security during Operation Ketupat Candi 2026.
“We have prepared approximately 822 personnel to assist homecoming travellers and secure community activities during Eid,” he said.
Silalahi stated that the Banyumas Police Resort is also establishing several security and service posts at strategic locations. Security posts for the return journey will be positioned in Ajibarang, Kemranjen, and Wangon to anticipate potential vehicle congestion during the H+3 to H+5 period after Eid.
Service posts will be established at Purwokerto Railway Station and Bulupitu Terminal to assist homecoming travellers requiring information services, healthcare, or rest facilities. The police are also preparing mobile repair workshops, vehicle recovery services, and mobile medical teams to assist travellers experiencing difficulties during their journey.
“We want homecoming travellers passing through Banyumas to feel supported by officers from the police, local government, and community members,” the Police Resort Commander said.
