Banyumas Regent Sadewo Tri Lastiono has stated that the number of people injured when a VIP stand collapsed at the Drift Speed Fest in the Gelanggang Olahraga Satria Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, has reached 75. In a brief message to journalists in Purwokerto on Sunday evening, he said all the victims, both seriously and slightly injured, are being treated at several hospitals, including RST Wijayakusuma, RS Elisabeth, RS Orthopaedi, and RSUD Prof Margono Soekarjo. “I am touring all the hospitals, bringing the organising team to visit and check on the condition of the victims,” he said via a WhatsApp message. The VIP stand collapse occurred as the committee was distributing merchandise to spectators, just minutes after the Drift Speed Fest was opened by the Bupati on Sunday afternoon. Dozens of spectators on the VIP stand fell as a result, with some sustaining injuries and requiring evacuation to several hospitals using dozens of ambulances. Meanwhile, the Banyumas City Police are still investigating to uncover the cause of the stand’s collapse. The Bupati said the police investigation is examining various parties, including the event organiser, the vendor, the implementation committee, and the Indonesian Motor Association, to determine the exact cause of the VIP stand collapse.
