Banyumas Regency strengthens bus-train integration at Purwokerto Station
Purwokerto (ANTARA) - The Banyumas Regency Government in Central Java is strengthening the integration of public bus and train transport in Purwokerto by utilising the west gate of Purwokerto Station as a free drop-off point and providing direct access for Trans Banyumas services to the station area.
Speaking after a trial of bus entry access for Trans Banyumas in the parking area at the west gate of Purwokerto Station on Wednesday, Banyumas Regent Sadewo Tri Lastiono stated that the policy was implemented to enhance passenger comfort while alleviating traffic density around the station.
“Free drop-off exclusively at the west gate. If all points were made free, it could potentially increase congestion because the station area is already crowded,” he said.
According to him, the decision resulted from discussions between the local government, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Operations 5 Purwokerto, and representatives from various parties, following numerous public complaints regarding passenger drop-off access.
He hopes that this integration will facilitate residents’ mobility, particularly for train passengers continuing their journeys using public transport.
“If buses arrive every 15 minutes, train passengers arriving in Purwokerto can immediately continue on Trans Banyumas. It’s cheap and comfortable,” he said.
The Director of PT Banyumas Raya Transportasi, Ipoeng Martha Marsikun, stated that the Trans Banyumas fleet directly connected to Purwokerto Station consists of Corridor 1 serving the Ajibarang-Pasar Pon route, Corridor 3A serving the Terminal Bulupitu-Kebondalem route (inner city line), and Corridor 3B serving the Terminal Bulupitu-Kebondalem route (outer city/peri-urban area line).
