Banyumas Regency Government resumes construction of permanent Grumbul Cibun bridge
The Banyumas Regency Government in Central Java has resumed construction of a permanent bridge in Grumbul Cibun, Sunyalangu Village, after residents waited for four years.
The construction of the bridge over the Logawa River on the Baseh-Sunyalangu road section has entered its fourth phase and was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony led by Banyumas Regent Sadewo Tri Lastiono on Monday, accompanied by House of Representatives member Yanuar Arif Wibowo and Head of the Banyumas Public Works Office Kresnawan.
The permanent bridge is 60 metres long and 8 metres wide, with a target construction period of five months.
On the occasion, Head of the Banyumas Public Works Office Kresnawan said the fourth phase consists of construction work supported by girders from the central government.
“We would like to thank Mr Yanuar for helping to oversee this project so that we received assistance from the central government worth around Rp5 billion,” he said.
In addition to central government assistance, he said, the construction is also supported by the Banyumas Regency regional budget amounting to Rp2.1 billion.
He expressed hope that the bridge construction would not stop at the fourth phase, as continued road construction on the opposite side of the bridge is still needed to open up public access more optimally.
Meanwhile, Banyumas Regent Sadewo Tri Lastiono said the regional government will continue to fight for the continuation of the road construction on the opposite side of the bridge to further open access and ease public mobility.
According to him, current access conditions mean the existing bridge can only be used by two-wheeled vehicles.
He expressed hope that the continued construction can be realised, although it is considered difficult for 2027 and is expected to proceed in 2028.
Regarding the need for road widening, he said residents have expressed their willingness to provide land without requesting compensation.
“I asked residents about their land earlier, and they are ready without requesting compensation,” the Regent said.
A resident of Grumbul Cibun, Sunyalangu Village, Karanglewas District, Wartun said the continuation of the bridge construction is something residents have long awaited since the third phase was completed around the end of 2022.
According to him, the bridge is very important for residents’ mobility because before the suspension bridge was built in 2004, people had to cross the Logawa River.
“Back when there was work on this bridge, we could not go anywhere. To go to the market we had to walk to Sokawera. It was very far,” he said.
