Banyumas Police Seize Illegal Explosive Materials to Reduce Fatality Risks
The Banyumas Regional Police (Polresta) in Central Java successfully thwarted the circulation of approximately 9 kilograms of illegal explosive materials during Operation Pekat Candi (OPC) 2026. The seizure, conducted in the early morning of Wednesday, 25 February, represents part of efforts to ensure security conditions ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
Regional Police Commander (Kapolresta) Kombes Petrus Silalahi revealed that the case was uncovered at approximately 02.00 WIB in Kedungpring Village, Kemranjen District, Banyumas Regency. During the operation, police apprehended two youths, identified as SP, 18, and RH, 23, who are strongly suspected of involvement in the mixing and illegal distribution of firecrackers.
The police commander emphasised that this enforcement action represents a preventive measure to anticipate threats to public security and order, given the significant risks posed by explosive materials. “This is a firm step by us to reduce the circulation of illegal explosive materials that could potentially cause casualties and environmental damage,” Petrus stated on Friday, 27 February.
In addition to apprehending the suspects, officers confiscated various items of evidence.
Police Commissioner Petrus urged the public not to mix or independently store firecracker materials. Beyond being illegal, such activities are extremely dangerous to personal safety. The police remain committed to tightening oversight of hazardous materials, illegal alcoholic beverages, and other activities that could disrupt stability in the region during Ramadan.
Both suspects are currently detained at Banyumas Regional Police Headquarters undergoing legal proceedings. They face charges under Article 306 of Indonesian Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, specifically regarding unauthorised possession, storage, and distribution of explosive materials.
