The ranks of Banyumas Regional Police in Central Java have thwarted an alleged distribution of explosive material suspected to be used for illegal firecrackers totalling approximately 9 kilograms (kg) during Operation Pekat Candi (TO OPC) 2026. The case was uncovered on Wednesday 25 February at approximately 02.00 Western Indonesia Time in Kedungpring Village, Kemranjen District, Banyumas Regency.

Banyumas Regional Police Chief Kombes Petrus Silalahi stated that the action represents a preventive measure to anticipate potential disruptions to public security and order (kamtibmas) during Ramadan, particularly from the circulation of illegal explosive materials that carry high risk. “This is a firm step by us to curb the circulation of illegal explosive materials that have the potential to cause loss of life and environmental damage,” he stated on Friday 27 February.

In the operation, police secured two young men with initials SP, 18, and RH, 23. Both are suspected of involvement in the mixing and distribution of illegal firecrackers.

In addition to securing the suspects, officers also confiscated evidence in the form of approximately 9 kilograms of firecracker material, one motorcycle unit allegedly used for operational purposes, and two mobile phones related to transaction activities.

The Regional Police Chief urged the public not to mix or store firecracker material independently. Beyond being illegal, such action is considered highly dangerous and has the potential to injure oneself and others.

He emphasised that police will continue to tighten surveillance of the circulation of hazardous materials, illegal alcoholic beverages, and various other activities that could disrupt regional stability, particularly during Ramadan.

The two suspects are currently detained at Banyumas Regional Police Headquarters to undergo further legal proceedings. They are charged under Article 306 of Indonesian Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code related to unlicensed possession, storage, and distribution of explosive materials.
