Bantul (ANTARA) - Various community groups in Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, carried out a cleaning action around the flow of Sungai Belik, Jejeran, as an effort to support the government’s Indonesia ASRI Movement for a Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful Indonesia.

“This river cleaning activity relates to the instructions from President Prabowo Subianto to guide the public in implementing the Indonesia ASRI Movement,” said ASRI Indonesia Activity Coordinator Eko Wiyatmo Bony during the river cleaning action in Jejeran, Bantul, on Sunday.

The river cleaning activity involved various community groups in Bantul and surrounding areas, namely BTA Nusantara, Laskar Arafat, Cah Suag, Merkade, Macan Kecil Jogja, and GMX, as well as local residents of Jejeran who care about river environmental cleanliness.

“So, together with the residents around Jejeran, Bantul, we want to prove that we are obedient and are carrying out the President’s instructions to implement the ASRI Movement. Hopefully, by cleaning the rubbish in this river flow, it will not cause flooding,” he said.

In addition, he said, this river environmental cleaning activity is also to invite and campaign the Indonesia ASRI Movement to the public, including not throwing rubbish into the river, which can pollute and cause flooding impacts.

“Why clean the river? Because we see that the people of Bantul are lacking in maintaining cleanliness. So, I ask the residents of Bantul, especially around Jejeran, to dispose of rubbish in its proper place,” he said.

He stated that based on observations by his community, the rubbish cleaned was branches, twigs, and trees growing in the middle of the river that could block the flow.
