Bantul regent Sri Roso replaced
YOGYAKARTA (JP): Yogyakarta Governor Sri Paku Alam VIII appointed Kismo Sukirdo Bantul as acting Bantul regent yesterday to replace Sri Roso Sudarmo who is being investigated over allegations that he tried to bribe a Soeharto-linked foundation with Rp 1 billion to get reappointed as regent.
The decision was taken after a meeting between Yogyakarta's officials and heads of the Bantul council.
Sri Roso may also be questioned over the unsolved murder of Bernas daily journalist Fuad Muhammad Syafruddin, alias Udin, in 1996.
Many people believe the journalist's death was probably tied to corruption reports he was investigating in Bantul. (23/44)
