Bantul Regency Administration Gives SPPG in Srandakan 10 Days to Resolve Waste Issue
The Bantul Regency Government has asked the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG), which caused the contamination of residents’ well water in Mangiran, Trimurti, Srandakan, Bantul, to take responsibility. The regency government has given the SPPG 10 days to promptly resolve the issue. “This is one reason why we demand improvements in SPPG management, including waste management,” said Bantul Regent Abdul Halim Muslih to reporters after the International Labour Day commemoration at Trirenggo Field, Bantul, on Friday (1/5/2026). To that end, Halim emphasised the importance of the SPPG obtaining a Hygiene and Sanitation Certificate (SLHS). Given that hygiene and sanitation are part of waste management procedures. “So before obtaining a permit, the SPPG must not operate. Because besides ensuring environmental safety, it also ensures consumption safety for children receiving free nutritious meals,” he said. Assistant for Government and Public Welfare of the Bantul Regency Regional Secretariat, Hermawan Setiaji, added that on Tuesday (28/4), the regency government had conducted a surprise inspection at the incident site. It turned out that two residents’ wells in Mangiran were contaminated by SPPG waste. “We have conducted the inspection and there are two houses whose water is foaming,” he said. Hermawan also said he had met with the SPPG manager in Mangiran and asked them to immediately resolve the issue. In fact, the regency government has given a deadline to the SPPG. “We give 10 days to resolve the issue related to the wastewater treatment installation. So the 10 days are counted from 28 April 2026. The hope is that around 8 May, the wastewater treatment installation is truly up to standard,” he said. In addition, within the 10-day period, the regency government asks the SPPG to take responsibility for the two affected households whose wells are contaminated. The responsibility is more towards moral responsibility. “What is the moral responsibility like? One of them is providing clean water needs, both for drinking water and for bathing water and so on. The partner (SPPG) is also asked to build a new well whose location is far from the waste installation,” he said. Previously reported, the well water of residents in Mangiran, Trimurti, Srandakan, Bantul, foamed after allegedly being contaminated by liquid waste from the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG). Meanwhile, the Trimurti SPPG claims it will take responsibility and build a borehole well for the affected residents. One resident whose well water is foaming, Agus Indriyanto (55), explained that initially he wanted to fill a bucket with tap water at the beginning of April 2026. Where the tap water source comes from the well. “The water at that time was foaming and had an unpleasant odour,” he said to reporters in Srandakan, Bantul, on Thursday (30/4). In fact, the foaming water condition continues to this day. Because he considers the water unfit for consumption, Agus chooses to buy clean water to meet daily needs. “So for bathing, I go to my relative’s house which is about one kilometre from my house. For cooking and drinking, I buy gallon water every day,” he said.
