Bantul Man Caught Carrying Sachet of Coffee Containing Methamphetamine

A man has been arrested after being found carrying methamphetamine concealed in a coffee sachet in the Bangunharjo area of Sewon, Bantul. The incident went viral on social media.

Kasi Humas Polres Bantul, Iptu Rita Hidayanto, stated that residents initially spotted a man acting suspiciously in Jotawang, Bangunharjo, Sewon, on Friday (7/8) at 01:40 WIB.

‘When he was secured by residents, they found a used Nescafe coffee sachet wrapped in black tape. Upon inspection, the sachet contained a small clear plastic bag of crystalline powder suspected to be methamphetamine,’ she said when contacted by reporters on Saturday (8/8/2026).

The residents who apprehended the man did not take the law into their own hands and decided to hand him over to the police.

‘The Bantul Police Narcotics Unit subsequently received the handover of a man with the initials MFR (29), a resident of Kasihan, Bantul, along with evidence of 0.33 grammes of methamphetamine from the residents and the Sewon Police picket officer,’ she said.

During questioning, MFR admitted that the methamphetamine belonged to him. He revealed that he had purchased it from an individual identified as J.

‘From his statement, MFR obtained the methamphetamine by buying it for Rp 450,000 from J,’ she said.

Rita added that MFR is currently being detained at the Bantul Police Station. The Bantul Police Narcotics Unit is still conducting intensive examinations of MFR.

‘For his actions, MFR is charged under Article 609 paragraph (1) letter a of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 609 paragraph (1) letter a of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments,’ she said.
