Bantul election may be delayed

BANTUL, Yogyakarta: The election of a new regent in Bantul,
scheduled for June 5, could be delayed due to the sluggish
deliberation of a government decree on the direct election of
regional administration heads.

Head of election materials and facilities at Bantul General
Elections Commission (KPUD), Suwandi, said that in the absence of
such a decree, his division had delayed submitting a budget
proposal.

"We are drafting the proposal, but it should be adjusted when
the decree comes into effect. This could take time and cause a
delay," Suwandi said. -- JP
