Serang (ANTARA) - Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that the construction of two Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) projects in Banten province, which are about to enter the tendering stage, are targeted for completion within three years.

“The tendering process is usually quite lengthy because the funding is substantial and it will be conducted nationally, thus requiring several months,” Hanif said after witnessing the signing of the PSEL cooperation agreement at the Banten Governor’s Office in Serang City on Friday.

The two PSEL facilities, targeted to process 4,000 tonnes of waste per day, are planned to be built in Jatiwaringin, Tangerang Regency, and at the Cilowong TPSA in Serang City, with funding from Danantara.

Hanif explained that the cooperation agreement documents will be submitted to Danantara next week to immediately begin the tendering stages for the work.

He mentioned that the two PSEL locations in Banten have undergone field verification by a joint central government team and will soon be followed by other agglomeration areas such as Bali, Yogyakarta, Bekasi, and Greater Bogor, which are also entering the tendering phase.

Aware of the lengthy construction process from the groundbreaking to operational readiness, the Environment Minister urged local governments to intensify waste sorting socialisation efforts to the public.

“Once again, we have often said that whatever technology is used, the basic foundation is that the waste must be sorted. Without sorted waste, the costs will be quite high and burdensome to the public,” he emphasised.

The cooperation agreement to accelerate PSEL was signed by Banten Governor Andra Soni along with the Serang City Government, Cilegon City Government, and Serang Regency Government. The agreement also covers the acceleration of PSEL facility development in the Greater Tangerang area.

Governor Andra Soni stated that this programme is not merely a waste management solution but has strategic impacts on strengthening energy resilience and the regional economy.

“Synergy between the central and local governments is the main foundation in realising modern, integrated, and sustainable waste management,” he said.

According to him, the success of the programme requires sustained commitment, intensive coordination, and strict supervision. While waiting for the PSEL facilities to be built, Andra also invited the public to actively reduce daily waste volume by sorting waste at home.
