Banten Province to Host PON XXIII

The designation of Banten Province as host is contained in the Central KONI Decree No. 05/Musornaslub/2026 concerning the Determination of the Result of the Host Selection for PON XXIII to be Held in 2032. Governor of Banten Andra Soni said the designation of Banten as PON host is an honour, a source of pride, and certainly a hope for the people of Banten. Moreover, the designation will have a positive impact on boosting the region’s competitiveness, in terms of infrastructure development, economic growth, the expansion of the tourism sector, and the development of human resources and regional sporting achievements, he stated in a written statement dated Thursday, 21 May 2026. He added that the designation would also generate positive momentum and effects on rising enthusiasm and public support for boosting competitiveness and sporting achievement in Banten Province, including enthusiasm to build synergy and collaboration among the Banten Provincial Government, KONI Banten, universities, business entities, or the industrial sector. To ensure the success of the PON, nine new venues will be constructed, beginning in 2027, at the Banten Sport Centre Area. The development plan is fully set out in the Banten RPJMD 2025-2029 and is targeted for completion in 2030. We have also prepared 44 venues for 28 sports that are planned to be contested in Banten Province, he said. Meanwhile, the Chairman of KONI Pusat, Lieutenant General (Ret.) Marciano Norman, who is also the Chair of the Selection and Screening Team (TPP) for the host of PON XXIII, said that based on visits to dozens of venues in Banten, most are already highly suitable to be used as competition venues for PON XXIII in 2032. There are still some that require renovation and construction. However, with the strong commitment from Governor Andra Soni, all those venues will be prepared by 2030, he added. Meanwhile, the Chairman of KONI Province Banten, Agus Rasyid, expressed gratitude that Banten Province had finally been designated as host of PON XXIII in 2032. He said the designation marks a new chapter since the formation of Banten Province. This is the support from all parties, including Governor Andra Soni, who has consistently pushed for Banten to host PON XXIII, he concluded.
