The Banten Provincial Government has revealed that a number of drinking water companies are suspected of violating regulations by using household water tariffs, despite reselling the water. Head of the Banten Provincial Revenue Agency (Bapenda), Berly Rizky Natakusumah, stated that reports had been received regarding several drinking water companies or entrepreneurs using household tariffs. “In terms of surface water, we will intervene on several matters directly related to drinking water companies that are still using household tariffs, whereas the utilisation is for companies, so it is sold to companies,” said Berly on Wednesday (10/6/2026). Berly stated that his party would enforce order among these companies. Currently, Bapenda Banten is still compiling data on all drinking water companies or industries. “We will enforce order to remind them that they should be using the industrial tariff. We are still inventorying several companies, but those are still allegations,” he said. Bapenda also possesses some data on water sale and purchase transactions to companies. “Because we see there are some transactions that are indeed carried out to industrial companies,” he stated. He noted that there is potential lost revenue, as industrial tariffs are more expensive than household tariffs. “So if the household tariff is around Rp 400 per cubic metre, for industry it is around Rp 3,000 per cubic metre. So there is a difference of Rp 2,600 per cubic metre that is lost,” he explained.
