Banten Police Prepare Four-Stage Security Plan for May Day
Serang (ANTARA) - The Banten Regional Police (Polda Banten) are preparing a four-stage security scheme to address the International Labour Day or May Day commemoration through a simulation of the Urban Security System (Sispamkota), involving combined personnel.
The Banten Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Hengki, stated in Serang on Monday that the four stages represent the implementation of Police Chief Regulation Number 1 of 2009 on the Use of Force, to ensure all personnel act professionally and proportionately according to the dynamics on the ground.
“This training demonstrates the readiness of personnel, facilities and infrastructure, as well as standard operating procedures (SOP) in securing demonstrations, both for May Day and future events. We prioritise a humane approach, but remain firm in accordance with procedures,” he said.
If the crowd begins to act anarchically, such as by setting fires or causing destruction, the situation escalates to red, which is handled by the anti-anarchist team from the Mobile Brigade (Brimob).
“The final stage is the use of firearm force, but this is only carried out if the situation threatens the safety of officers or the public,” he added.
Polda Banten also urged the public not to be easily provoked by false information and to utilise the 110 call centre service to verify information in order to maintain regional conduciveness.
Meanwhile, Banten Deputy Governor Achmad Dimyati Natakusumah appreciated the implementation of the simulation. According to him, understanding field handling strategies is crucial for the police in maintaining regional stability.
“Unity and courage must be possessed by officers. I appreciate the Banten Police for their good communication with workers, so it is hoped that May Day in Banten will run safely and conducively,” he said.
