The Banten Regional Police (Polda Banten) are preparing an alternative port in the event of congestion on Jalan Lingkar Selatan (JLS) in Cilegon. Police will direct light trucks or vehicles in categories 5 and 6B to Krakatau Bandar Samudera Port.

“Krakatau Bandar Samudera Port will be used as a contingency for category 5 and 6B vehicles. If congestion reaches Jalan Lingkar Selatan, we will divert to Krakatau Bandar Samudera,” said the Banten Police Chief, Inspector General Hengki, in Cilegon on Wednesday (4 March 2026).

Hengki said he had checked three ports to be used for Lebaran 2026 exodus. The ports are BBJ Bojonegara Port for three-axle trucks, Ciwandan Port for motorcycles and light trucks, and Merak Port for pedestrians, buses, and private vehicles.

“The readiness is still being prepared. God willing, at the latest before the operation roll-out on the 12th, the security posts, service posts, and integrated posts will be ready,” Hengki said.

Hengki also spoke about anticipating vehicle pile-ups, including in the event of adverse weather. They have prepared several parking bays and implemented a vehicle-queuing system.

“Weather issues may cause delays; we have parking bays at Km 43 and Km 68. There is a buffer zone at Indah Kiat, Wilmar, Samudera Marine Indonesia, including along the JLS,” he said.

Then, if a vehicle arrives at Merak Port earlier than its ticket time, officers will direct that vehicle to board the ship directly. This is to prevent pile-ups at the port area.

“If someone has bought a ticket for a certain time, but arrives early, they must board immediately,” he said.
