Banten Regional Police have denied naming a motorcycle taxi driver called Al Amin Maksum as a suspect in a fatal traffic accident caused by damaged roads in Pandeglang, Banten, on Tuesday, 27 January 2026.

At the time of the incident, Al Amin Maksum, a station-based motorcycle taxi (ojek pangkalan) driver, was riding his motorcycle with passenger and victim Khairi Rafi. As Amin travelled along the Pandeglang–Labuan main road, the pair repeatedly swerved to avoid damaged sections of the road until the front tyre eventually fell into a pothole, throwing the motorcycle and killing passenger Khairi Rafi.

“It is confirmed that no suspect has been named, contrary to the viral reports. There has been no suspect designation,” said the Head of Public Relations for Banten Regional Police, Commissioner Maruli Ahiles Hutapea, on Monday (23 February).

Banten Regional Police, led by Inspector General Hengki, claimed that the police are still conducting an investigation into the traffic accident caused by the damaged road, which resulted in the death of passenger Khairi Rafi at the scene.

“It should be noted that as of this afternoon, the Pandeglang Traffic Unit investigators are still examining the matter. The status remains under investigation,” he explained.

A case review will be conducted at the Banten Regional Police level to determine the status of Al Amin Maksum and whether the traffic accident case will proceed further.

“As stated by the Head of Public Relations for Banten Regional Police, the case is still under investigation and no suspect has been named. We will conduct a case review at the regional police level,” said the Head of the Pandeglang District Police Traffic Unit, Assistant Commissioner Burhanudin Surya Muhammad, at the same location on Monday (23 February).

In a copy of a notification letter of the commencement of investigation (SPDP) dated 16 February 2026, bearing the Pandeglang District Police letterhead under Banten Regional Police with reference number B/52/II/2026/Lantas, it was stated that the police had conducted a case review on Thursday, 12 February 2026, attended by the families of those involved in the traffic accident, at the Pandeglang District Police Traffic Unit hall, to determine the perpetrator and the status of the traffic accident case.

Subsequently, further investigation has been carried out and the Pandeglang District Police have also sent an SPDP to the Pandeglang District Prosecutor’s Office.
