The Banten Migrant Centre has been formed to broaden job access while improving the competence of workers from Banten to compete in the global market. The presence of this migrant worker development centre is expected to become a hub for training, skills enhancement, and legal and safe job placement. The establishment of the Banten Migrant Centre was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), the Banten Provincial Government, PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk, and the Alumni Association of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University (IKA Untirta) at SMK YPWKS in Cilegon City on Monday (15/6/2026). PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk President Director Akbar Djohan stated that the collaboration is a strategic step to align the needs of the industrial world with the education and training system for workers. “As a state-owned enterprise, Krakatau Steel has a moral responsibility to help deliver concrete employment solutions for the people of Banten. Through this collaboration, we want to ensure that the industrial ecosystem that has developed in Banten can provide broader benefits through improved competence and job opportunities,” Akbar said in a press release on Tuesday (16/6/2026). According to him, the Krakatau Steel Group will optimise its educational assets, training facilities, and industrial environment to support the development of a workforce that meets the needs of the international job market. “We hope this synergy can produce outstanding talents with global competence, thereby enhancing the competitiveness and dignity of Indonesian workers in the international market,” Akbar said. Banten Governor Andra Soni assessed that the success of the programme depends on the alignment between education, training, and industry needs. Therefore, cross-sector collaboration is considered important so that the resulting workforce possesses the skills required by the market. “We must ensure that the education and training provided truly match industry needs. Through this collaboration, we hope that more Banten workers will have competence, receive protection, and gain access to decent jobs both domestically and abroad,” Andra said. He added that the Banten Migrant Centre is also expected to help reduce the unemployment rate by improving the quality of human resources and expanding access to employment opportunities. Meanwhile, Director General of Promotion and Utilisation of Overseas Job Opportunities at the Ministry of P2MI, Dwi Setiawan Susanto, said Banten is the first region to integrate government, universities, vocational schools, and state-owned enterprises into a single ecosystem for preparing migrant workers. According to him, this model can become a national pilot project in preparing competent and protected workers. “Banten is the pilot project for implementing the President’s directive to prepare migrant workers who are competent, protected, and globally competitive. Through this collaboration, we want to encourage the emergence of more skilled workers capable of filling various job opportunities in the international market,” Dwi said. The presence of the Banten Migrant Centre aligns with the government’s efforts to improve the quality of human resources while expanding job opportunities. In addition to providing training and competency certification, this centre will also serve as a means of providing information and assistance for prospective migrant workers so they can work legally, safely, and sustainably.
