Banten Governor Welcomes Tangerang Selatan as Host for National Muslim Student Congress

The Provincial Government of Banten has expressed its support for the 9th Congress of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union (SEMMI), which will be held in Tangerang Selatan. The support was conveyed by Banten Governor Andra Soni during a meeting with the SEMMI Central Board, also attended by the Head of the Banten National Unity and Politics Agency and the Head of the Banten Education and Culture Office.

PB SEMMI Chairman Bintang Wahyu Saputra expressed appreciation for the provincial government’s backing of the organisation’s national agenda. He also commended the free school programme for underprivileged communities run by the Banten Provincial Government, noting that synergy between the local government and student organisations can positively impact the congress’s success.

‘We greatly appreciate the support given by the Governor of Banten. This support adds energy and enthusiasm for all SEMMI cadres to make the 9th Congress a success as a strategic forum for determining the organisation’s direction and student contributions to national development,’ Bintang stated on Friday, 26 June 2026.

Following coordination, Tangerang Selatan has been designated as the location for the 9th SEMMI Congress. The organisation’s highest forum is expected to be attended by approximately 1,000 participants, comprising delegates from all 34 Indonesian provinces, including representatives, observers, and members from SEMMI regions and branches.

Bintang explained that the congress will not only serve as an agenda for electing a new chairman but also as a consolidation forum to strengthen national unity, reinforce national commitment, and formulate strategic recommendations for Indonesia’s development. The congress in Tangerang Selatan is also anticipated to provide an economic boost for the local community, with the presence of thousands of participants projected to stimulate the hospitality, transport, culinary, and micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sectors in Banten.

‘We hope the 9th SEMMI Congress becomes a meeting space for ideas from students across Indonesia to strengthen national unity and make a real contribution to the nation’s progress,’ Bintang said.
