Banten Governor Takes Swift Action to Resolve Chandra Asri Investment Dispute Following Viral Incident
Banten Governor Andra Soni has taken swift action to resolve investment issues surrounding PT Chandra Asri Alkali following a viral incident involving the Cilegon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
A high-level facilitation meeting was chaired directly by Governor Andra Soni together with Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries/BKPM Todotua Pasaribu at the Ministry of Investment/BKPM building in Jakarta on Wednesday (14/5/2025).
In a written statement, Governor Andra Soni expressed his concern over the incident between PT Chandra Asri and Kadin Cilegon that had attracted public scrutiny.
"We held this facilitation meeting as a firm show of support for the commitment to realising investment in Banten Province so that it proceeds well and on schedule, and delivers significant benefits for the Banten region, particularly Cilegon City," said Andra Soni.
Andra Soni further touched upon various relaxations provided by the government to investors, such as tax holidays and tax allowances. He expressed hope that the implementation of these regulations would have a positive impact on the local investment ecosystem.
"Banten Province must not be labelled as unfriendly to investment. We need to continue socialising the existing rules of the game," he said.
The Governor also expressed optimism regarding investment targets in Banten. In 2024, Banten successfully ranked fifth nationally in investment realisation. For 2025, the central government has set an investment realisation target of Rp119 trillion for Banten.
"To achieve that target, cooperation from all parties is needed, particularly in creating a conducive investment climate. God willing, there will be no more similar incidents going forward," he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Investment/BKPM Todotua Pasaribu explained that the meeting was a follow-up to a letter from PT Chandra Asri Alkali regarding the viral incident affecting their project.
"This incident is quite concerning for our investment climate. On the Minister's instructions, I immediately carried out a consolidation regarding PT Chandra Asri Alkali's investment," said Todotua whilst chairing the meeting.
He affirmed that the Ministry of Investment/BKPM would take over monitoring to ensure investment conditions remain conducive. PT Chandra Asri Alkali's investment is a National Strategic Project (PSN) located in a vital object zone.
Todotua also highlighted the national economic growth target of eight per cent, which requires investment realisation of approximately Rp13,000 trillion.
"This is a major challenge, but on the other hand our potential is also very great," he said.
