Banten Governor Proposes Road Widening to Support 2032 PON

Banten Province has proposed widening Jalan Jaksa Agung R. Soeprapto to Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo to support the region’s readiness as co-host of the XXIII National Games (PON) in 2032 alongside Lampung Province. The proposal to widen the main access road to the Banten International Stadium (BIS) was conveyed by Banten Governor Andra Soni during an inspection of national road sections in Serang Regency on Monday evening. “This section is the access route to the Banten International Stadium, so its capacity needs to be increased as part of Banten’s preparations for the 2032 PON,” Andra said in a statement in Serang on Tuesday. Andra explained that the national road section has a total length of approximately 9.4 kilometres. Given the high traffic volume during peak hours, the Banten Provincial Government is initially proposing the widening of a 3.5-kilometre stretch from Simpang Palima to Pasar Baros. Meanwhile, Head of Banten’s Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, Arlan Marzan, stated that the local government has matured the technical planning for the proposal. This year, the Detail Engineering Design (DED) for the widening is under review. The Provincial Government is also continuously coordinating with the Ministry of Public Works so that the project location determination can be executed immediately. “The plan is to widen the road section gradually to 25 metres from Simpang Palima to Pasar Baros in Serang,” Arlan revealed. To accelerate the project’s realisation, Arlan confirmed that the Banten Provincial Government is ready to assist with land acquisition financing through a cost-sharing scheme. Of the total estimated land acquisition requirement of Rp180 billion, the Provincial Government has committed to providing Rp50 billion in matching funds. The widening of Jalan Jaksa Agung R. Soeprapto is expected not only to facilitate public mobility to the province’s flagship sports area but also to smooth logistics distribution from South Banten to North Banten, serving as a foundation for strengthening the regional economy.
