Banten Governor and Deputy Investment Minister Lead Meeting to Resolve PT Chandra Asri Alkali Investment Dispute
Jakarta — Banten Governor Andra Soni, together with Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries/BKPM Todotua Pasaribu, chaired a facilitation meeting to resolve investment issues surrounding PT Chandra Asri Alkali at the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries/BKPM building in Jakarta on Wednesday (14/5/2025).
The meeting was held in response to a viral incident between PT Chandra Asri and the Cilegon City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). Andra Soni expressed regret over the incident and stressed the importance of commitment to realising investment in Banten Province, particularly in Cilegon City.
"This meeting supports efforts to ensure investment proceeds well and on schedule, delivering benefits to the Banten Province region," he said.
The Governor explained that the government provides relaxations for investors, including tax holidays and tax allowances, with the aim of creating a better local ecosystem. "We do not want Banten Province to be perceived as unfriendly to investment. Therefore, we need to socialise the existing regulations," he emphasised.
In 2024, Banten Province ranked fifth nationally in investment realisation, and for 2025, the investment realisation target has been set at Rp119 trillion. Andra Soni stressed the importance of cooperation among all parties to create a conducive investment climate. "God willing, going forward there will be no more incidents like the one that occurred," he concluded.
Deputy Minister Todotua Pasaribu added that the meeting was a follow-up to Chandra Asri's letter regarding the viral incident. "This incident is quite concerning for our investment conditions. The Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries/BKPM will ensure investment conditions remain conducive, especially for nationally strategic projects such as PT Chandra Asri Alkali," he said.
Banten Police Chief Inspector General Suyudi Ario Seto also affirmed that the National Police is part of the Investment Acceleration Task Force. "We will deploy a team to conduct investigations if there are suspected criminal acts disrupting the investment climate," he stressed.
The meeting was attended by Cilegon Mayor Robinsar, Cilegon Police Chief Senior Commissioner Kemas Indra Natanegara, PT Chandra Asri Alkali management, and representatives from the national and Cilegon chambers of commerce.
