Banten Governor Andra Soni has highlighted the controversy surrounding a demand for Rp 5 trillion in project allocations by local businesspeople in Cilegon City.

Andra Soni went directly to the Ministry of Investment (BKPM) to resolve the dispute surrounding the Rp 15 trillion factory construction project belonging to PT Chandra Asri Alkali (CAA).

"Today I will hold a meeting at BKPM. I very much regret that this incident has occurred," Andra said at the Banten Governor's Official Residence on Wednesday (14/5/2025).

The Rp 5 trillion project allocation demand was reportedly made by the Cilegon Chamber of Commerce (Kadin), HIPPI, HIPMI Baja, and HNSI to representatives of Chinese contractor Chengda Engineering Co, which is undertaking the PT CAA project.

The demand came to light after a video clip circulated widely on social media.

Andra said he would await the outcome of the meeting with BKPM regarding the matter. He noted that the professional organisations involved are officially registered bodies with structures extending from the regional to national level.

"We will wait for the meeting results, because these are official organisations with provincial and municipal chapters. I believe they need to be given proper guidance," he concluded.
