The Banten International Education, Technology, and Health Special Economic Zone (SEZ), also known as the D-HUB Special Economic Zone, will focus its development on the health and education sectors throughout 2026.

The Head of the Development and Management Agency (BUPP) of the Banten ETKI SEZ, Lindawaty, explained that the health sector is a priority because the government provides very competitive incentives for investors.

“This year, we are focusing on the health sector, considering that the government offers the most significant benefits in this sector. We hope that all tenants in the Biomedical Campus building will be operational this year,” said Lindawaty in Jakarta on Wednesday (February 25) evening.

In addition to the operation of the Biomedical Campus building, the management is also exploring strategic partnerships with several international partners to bring a world-class hospital to the zone.

In addition to health, the main focus of the Banten ETKI SEZ in 2026 is the education sector. This is a follow-up to the direction of President Prabowo Subianto after his working visit to the UK in January 2026.

“The government hopes to bring 10 foreign universities to Indonesia. One of the most suitable locations is indeed in the SEZ, because with its SEZ status, the facilities and benefits certainly support this target,” added Lindawaty.

For information, the Banten ETKI SEZ was inaugurated on October 7, 2024, through Government Regulation Number 38 of 2024. This zone holds the status of being the only SEZ in the Jabodetabek area, making it a strategic center for the creative economy, digital technology, education, and health.

The development of the Banten ETKI SEZ also aims to reduce the number of Indonesians seeking medical treatment abroad. Data shows that more than two million Indonesians spend around US$11.5 billion per year on healthcare services abroad. About 75 percent of them come from the upper-middle class.

The presence of world-class healthcare services in BSD City is expected to capture this market potential while keeping the country’s foreign exchange circulating domestically.

To attract global investor interest, the Banten ETKI SEZ offers various facilities, including:

Located only 30 minutes from Jakarta and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the Banten ETKI SEZ is projected to be a new economic driver that will have a significant impact on more than 32 million people in the Jabodetabek area. (Ant/I-2)
