Banten Governor Andra Soni, together with all regents, mayors and regional parliament leaders across Banten and West Java, signed a joint commitment to improve governance. The signing took place at a Regional Coordination Meeting on Strengthening Local Government Governance and Preventing Corruption at the Banten Governor’s Office in Serang.

The strategic event was attended by KPK Deputy Chairman Johanis Tanak, Deputy Home Affairs Minister Akhmad Wiyagus, BPKP Deputy Setya Nugraha and KPK’s Deputy for Coordination and Supervision of Prevention, Ely Kusumastuti. Also present were Banten Deputy Governor Achmad Dimyati Natakusumah, West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan, Banten Regional Secretary Deden Apriandhi and West Java Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman.

Andra said the commitment formed part of an evaluation of government programmes during his two years in office in Banten. He said the provincial government, together with regional parliament leaders and members, had received input, solutions and evaluations from the KPK and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

He said coordination between institutions and local governments was needed to establish a shared understanding and draw up steps to improve governance.

“We have jointly committed to follow up on the various evaluations within no more than 30 days from now,” Andra said in a written statement on Thursday (29 October 2026).

According to Andra, the success of government cannot be measured solely by the size of its budget or the number of infrastructure projects built. Governance quality, the proper use of public funds, transparency in decision-making and the benefits of programmes to the public are also important measures.

He said these efforts were in line with Banten’s development vision, “Progressive, Equitable and Corruption-Free”, as set out in Banten Provincial Regulation No. 1/2025 on the 2025–2029 Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD).

Andra also cited several macroeconomic indicators showing positive trends. In the second quarter of 2026, Banten’s economy grew by 5.49 per cent year on year. Inflation in the province stood at 3.14 per cent in September 2026, below the national rate of 3.28 per cent.

Banten’s Human Development Index reached 77.25 in 2025, up 0.90 points on the previous year. The poverty rate fell to 5.38 per cent in March 2026, while the Gini ratio was 0.312.

The open unemployment rate fell to 6.48 per cent in May 2026. Investment realisation reached Rp130.2 trillion in 2025, while first-half 2026 investment totalled Rp66.3 trillion, up 9.23 per cent on the same period a year earlier.

“These achievements have also been supported by improvements in governance. The Banten Provincial Government has again received an unqualified opinion from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK), for the tenth consecutive year. Follow-up on BPK audit recommendations has reached 83.43 per cent, exceeding the national target of 75 per cent,” he said.

KPK Deputy Chairman Johanis Tanak welcomed the joint commitment initiated by the regional leaders to strengthen the integrity of public officials. He stressed the importance of accountability in the use of regional budgets.

“The aim is for all local government programmes, from planning through to implementation as set out in the regional budgets, to be carried out properly and correctly, and to be accountable,” Johanis said.

Deputy Home Affairs Minister Akhmad Wiyagus said the event, held with the KPK, BPKP and the National Public Procurement Agency (LKPP), was part of the ministry’s efforts to strengthen corruption prevention in local government.

“This is the seventh of the ten clusters we are carrying out,” Akhmad said.

He explained that, as part of the programme, the KPK conducted more in-depth oversight of local government programmes. The process concluded with the signing of a joint commitment to improve governance.

The evaluation findings and follow-up improvements will then be reported to the KPK, BPKP and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Each local government has 30 days to act on the evaluations.

“Each local government has been given 30 days,” he said.

Wiyagus said he hoped the measures would reduce the number of public officials and regional heads caught up in corruption cases. He said the ministry wanted to strengthen prevention efforts in line with the Home Affairs Minister’s direction.

“In accordance with the minister’s direction, we want to strengthen prevention in these areas,” he said.
