Jakarta – The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting the restoration of normal waste management operations at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) within one week following a landslide that occurred on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

“Field teams are currently managing landslide material located in the river flow near the incident site,” said Asep Kuswanto, Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Service (DLH), on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

According to Kuswanto, landslide material blocking the river flow will be relocated to disposal areas in Small Zone 4 and Large Zone 4. Reorganisation work is also being carried out to ensure these zones are safer and better organised.

Additionally, riverbank reinforcement repairs will be undertaken at two sites affected by water overflow to maintain the safety of infrastructure surrounding TPST.

“These repairs are being carried out to ensure infrastructure around the TPST area remains secure whilst preventing potential new disruptions,” he stated.

Kuswanto confirmed that waste collection services from Jakarta continue to operate through three active zones—Zone 1, Zone 2, and Zone 5—with a capacity of approximately 4,000 tonnes of waste per day.

Once the organisation process in Large Zone 4, which experienced the landslide, is completed, that zone will resume operations with additional capacity of approximately 1,500 tonnes of waste per day.

During the recovery period, some waste is also being diverted to other processing facilities, including the Bantargebang RDF Plant, the Merah Putih Waste-to-Energy Power Plant (PLTSa), and the Rorotan RDF Plant.

The Bantargebang RDF Plant has processing capacity of approximately 800 tonnes of waste per day, whilst the Merah Putih PLTSa has capacity of approximately 100 tonnes per day. This capacity will be increased gradually to reach 750 tonnes per day this week and is targeted to increase to 1,000 tonnes per day.

With this approach, total waste that can be managed by the end of this week is estimated to reach approximately 6,700 to 7,150 tonnes per day.

“With the various management steps currently being undertaken, we hope that waste management operations at Bantargebang TPST can return to normal within this one-week period,” said Kuswanto.
