Bekasi, Kompas.com - A mound of waste at Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST Bantargebang) in Bekasi City collapsed on Sunday, 8 March 2026, at around 14:30 WIB. The incident occurred as several garbage trucks queued to unload their loads at the disposal area. Eko Uban, a rescue officer with the Bekasi City Fire Department (Damkar Kota Bekasi), said the waste collapse struck a truck driver who was waiting in line. Not only the truck drivers, but other residents nearby, especially those at a warung, were also buried by the falling waste. ‘People at the warung were also buried under the debris,’ he said. As a result, 10 people became casualties, comprising five garbage truck drivers and five residents and scavengers. However, three truck drivers have been evacuated. Two were in a safe condition and receiving treatment, while one was pronounced dead. ‘Two more (drivers) are still being searched for,’ he added. In addition to the truck drivers, five other residents were at the location at the time. ‘Two had already been evacuated, female and in a dead state. Three people are still being searched for,’ he explained. In this incident, one warung and five vehicles were affected by the waste collapse. Two vehicles were recovered from the debris; one vehicle was safe, while two others remained buried under the waste material. By Sunday night, the search for those believed to be buried in the debris continued by a joint team.
