Bantargebang Waste Dump Landslide Kills Four People

Jakarta’s Regional Disaster Management Agency revealed that the landslide at Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility in Ciketing Udik Village, Bantargebang District, Bekasi City, West Java, was caused by heavy rain with prolonged duration.

The head of Jakarta’s Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Isnawa Adji, described the incident’s timeline as commencing around 14:30 local time.

“Whilst garbage trucks were queuing to unload their cargo, a sudden landslide struck five garbage trucks and one roadside shop in the vicinity,” he stated.

He added that initial estimates suggested ten people were buried—five residents and five garbage truck drivers.

“Four people have been evacuated in deceased condition and two people have been recovered alive,” Isnawa said.

He also noted that ongoing search efforts by combined rescue teams were utilising 20 excavators.

Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Jakarta revealed updated death toll figures showing four fatalities from the waste pile collapse at Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility in Ciketing Udik Village, Bantargebang District, Bekasi City, West Java.

“The victim named Irwan Suprihatin was found inside a truck in deceased condition,” said Jakarta Search and Rescue Office spokesperson Ramli Prasetyo.

In addition to evacuating four deceased victims, rescue personnel also located two surviving victims named Setiabudi and Johan.

He added that personnel were still conducting victim documentation and that many garbage trucks and shops in the area remained buried.
