Bantargebang TPST in Bekasi to Implement Controlled Landfill System
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is taking gradual steps to improve waste management at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Plant (TPST). One such measure is the implementation of a controlled landfill system starting 1 August 2026, as part of efforts to gradually end open dumping practices and realise waste management that is safer for the environment and the public. In a controlled landfill system, waste is no longer simply piled up in the open. Placement and compaction of waste are carried out in a more orderly manner, and it is then covered with specific material periodically. This method aims to reduce odour, the risk of fire, environmental disturbances, and the potential for landslides.
