Metro Bekasi Police have confirmed that four people died after being buried in a waste landslide at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) in Bekasi City on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

β€œThe deceased victims are identified as: S (60), a coffee vendor at the location; EW (26), a waste picker; DS (22), a truck driver from Semper Barat, Cilincing, North Jakarta; and IS (40), also a truck driver,” said Metro Bekasi City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.

In addition to the fatalities, two truck drivers reportedly survived the incident: J and R, both truck drivers.

The landslide occurred in the TPST DKI Jakarta Zone 4C area, RT 004 RW 004, Cikiwul Village, Bantargebang District. The collapsed waste pile blocked road access to the TPST and crushed a coffee stall and several garbage collection trucks operating in the area.

Police suspect there may be additional victims buried in the landslide. Based on preliminary data, the total number of victims is estimated at approximately 10 people, comprising five garbage truck drivers and five local residents working as waste pickers.

The landslide was first discovered by a security officer who was conducting a routine patrol at the TPST after resting at the coffee stall. The officer heard residents shouting about the landslide and then witnessed the massive garbage heap suddenly collapse, blocking the road and crushing the stall and several garbage trucks.

Following the incident, information was immediately disseminated through the TPST security communication network, prompting personnel to respond to the scene. Officers from Bantargebang Police Station received the report and immediately attended the incident site to conduct inspections, document victims, and assist in evacuation efforts. As of now, search and rescue operations continue using heavy equipment, including excavators.

The evacuation process involves various agencies, including the Indonesian military and police (TNI-Polri), Bekasi City and DKI Jakarta Disaster Management Agencies (BPBD), Bekasi City Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency), Environmental Sanitation Service, Bekasi City Fire Department, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), volunteers, and officials from Bantargebang District and Sumur Batu Village.

Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, accompanied by Deputy Metro Jaya Police Chief Brigadier General Dekananto Eko Purwono, visited the site to monitor evacuation efforts and ensure victim assistance operations proceed at full capacity.
