Bantargebang Landfill Collapse Victims Found: 2 Rescued, 1 Deceased

The search operation for victims of the waste collapse at Bantargebang waste treatment site (TPST) in Bekasi City, West Java, continues. Latest updates confirm that two residents reported as collapse victims have been found alive.

“At 16:57 WIB, we received information from police that victims named Ato and Dofir are safe and have returned to their respective residences,” said Jakarta Search and Rescue (SAR) Office Chief Desiana Kartika Bahari on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Additionally, another person named Hardianto was discovered deceased. As a result, a total of six people are now reported dead in the incident.

“At 17:50 WIB, the joint SAR team found another victim identified as Hardianto in deceased condition at the riverbank surrounded by waste piles. The victim was subsequently transported to Polri Kramat Jati Hospital,” Bahari stated.

Bahari added that authorities continue searching for one additional person reported missing following the collapse. Heavy machinery and K9 units have been deployed to locate the missing victim.

“Joint SAR personnel are opening access routes using heavy equipment such as excavators and deploying K9 units to search for signs of victims. The search is also being conducted using thermal drones to scan from the air by detecting body heat,” she explained.
