JAKARTA – The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly becoming part of the transformation of the banking sector. This technology is being deployed to support operations, decision-making, and enhance the quality of customer services.

However, amid the accelerated adoption of this technology, the challenges facing banks extend beyond technological implementation to encompassing how to design business models that remain relevant, responsible, and human-focused.

At a discussion forum titled “Reinventing HR Leadership in the Age of AI and Work Transformation,” human resources leaders from various companies emphasised the importance of a human-centric AI approach. This approach is regarded as essential to maintain balance between technological innovation and organisational responsibility towards employees and other stakeholders.

PT Bank Jago Tbk (ARTO) is one company implementing this approach. The digital bank is leveraging AI to strengthen organisational capacity whilst improving employee work effectiveness.

“At Bank Jago, we position AI as a ‘co-pilot’, not ‘autopilot’. AI is not a human replacement, but a partner that strengthens the role and creativity of every Jagoan [the term used for Bank Jago employees],” said Pratomo.

As a technology-based bank, Bank Jago has made AI part of human resources management. The technology is utilised from the recruitment process through to employee skill development.

According to Pratomo, AI helps the company match candidate competencies more precisely, predict digital talent needs, and identify skill gaps within the organisation.

Nevertheless, all decisions remain in human hands. The principles of accountability and contextual understanding remain the foundation of every decision-making process.

“AI must not function merely as a tool. The challenge is how to make it part of daily workflow processes without removing human responsibility,” he explained.

In human resources development, Bank Jago also encourages employees to develop their capabilities in leveraging AI.
