Commemorating its 37th anniversary, Bank Sinarmas is strengthening its commitment to environmental conservation and community empowerment through its Tree Planting and Adoption Programme. The programme is being implemented in two locations: Taro Village, Tegallalang, Gianyar Regency, Bali, and Sukajaya Village, Lembang, West Bandung Regency, West Java. It prioritises a sustainability approach that focuses not only on planting trees but also on ensuring their long-term maintenance and benefits.

The Tree Planting and Adoption Programme is part of Bank Sinarmas’ efforts to deliver tangible action in addressing environmental challenges, including critical land degradation and climate change. Through the tree adoption concept, the programme’s sustainability is supported by funding and maintenance after planting, so that the trees are expected to grow optimally and provide ecological and economic benefits to the community.

Bank Sinarmas President Director Frenky Tirtowijoyo said that through the Tree Planting and Adoption Programme, the company wants to ensure that its commitment to sustainability does not stop at planting, but continues until the trees grow and provide benefits for the environment and the community.

“This programme supports ecological rehabilitation, strengthens the community economy, and promotes sustainable food security through community empowerment,” Frenky said in a statement on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.

The programme is implemented using an agroforestry approach, combining timber trees with ecological functions and productive crops with economic value, such as coffee and fruit trees. This approach is expected to create dual benefits: supporting ecosystem restoration by preventing erosion, maintaining the water cycle, absorbing carbon emissions, and restoring biodiversity, while also opening opportunities for communities to earn income from productive crops.

In addition to planting and maintenance, the programme also integrates the use of local resources through Local Microorganism Consortium (MOL) technology. The growing media and fertiliser used are derived from processing livestock waste and local organic waste. This utilisation encourages waste management into a resource with useful value while increasing community awareness of sustainable environmental management practices.

This approach aligns with circular economy principles, which promote more efficient resource use and minimise waste through processing and reuse. In the context of community empowerment, the application of circular economy principles is expected to create added value from local resources, open economic opportunities, and strengthen community self-reliance.
