Bank says no Marcos accounts
GENEVA (AFP): Swiss bank Julius Baer denied Tuesday having any
accounts linked to the funds of deposed dictator Ferdinand Marcos
following claims by a U.S. lawyer.
Lawyer Robert Swift has accused Julius Baer of laundering many
millions of dollars of gold for the Marcos family and said
Tuesday that current Philippine President Fidel Ramos held an
account at the bank.
Swift told reporters that information on Ramos' Swiss account
was contained in a memorandum he submitted to a hearing on
Marcos' wealth in Swiss banks.
"We have no such accounts. We have nothing to do with this
affair," Julius Baer spokesman Jan Bielinski told AFP Tuesday,
adding that he was not commenting on the specific case of Ramos
but on the "entire affair".
