Bank Niaga responds
From Media Indonesia
In response to Yuanita Purwadi's letter published in Media
Indonesia (March 11), we would like to apologize for the
negligence on our part in dealing with the bank account
No.221.6726.211 of Ventje Mailuhu, Yuanita Purwadi's late
husband.
The following is our explanation of the case which has been
settled in accordance with information we gave to Yuanita
Purwadi.
1. The party who asked to withdraw the money in May 1996 could
provide us with all the necessary documents (including the police
certificate for the lost bank account under the name of V.
Mailuhu) needed as a legal heir to the late Mailuhu.
2. When Yuanita came to us on Jan. 21, 1997 to withdraw the
money and submitted the related documents proving that she was
the legal heir to her late husband, we immediately reexamined the
documents submitted by the first party in May 1996.
3. Realizing our carelessness in the previous examination of
the client's documents, we intended to settle the bank account
with Yuanita who was the legal heir to V. Mailuhu. Only after the
case had been settled would we continue our investigation of the
other documents.
4. We then tried to arrange a meeting between the first party
who withdrew the money in May 1996 and Yuanita.
5. After all our efforts failed, we immediately paid the money
to the legal heir of the late V. Mailuhu.
6. But before the payment was made to the legal heir, we tried
to contact Yuanita by every means possible. We visited her office
in Tanjung Priok and sent a letter to her dated March 10, 1997.
7. After failing to get in touch with Yuanita, we finally paid
the money on March 13, 1997 by transferring it to her own bank
account.
We would like to thank Yuanita Purwadi for her confidence in
us.
