Bank Mandiri's SimPel Savings Accounts Reach 966,000 by March 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Bank Mandiri Tbk (BMRI) recorded 966,000 SimPel (Simpanan Pelajar) savings accounts as of March 2026, representing a 12% year-on-year growth compared to the same period in the previous year. From this number of SimPel accounts, the total balance reached Rp354 billion, with an average balance of Rp366,000 per account. Bank Mandiri’s Corporate Secretary, Adhika Vista, in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday, explained that the SimPel savings are linked to practical financial literacy programmes, a network of partner schools across various regions in Indonesia, and a research-based approach that ensures every initiative is relevant, measurable, and sustainable. “We believe that early financial literacy and inclusion form an important foundation in shaping an adaptive and competitive generation, so through SimPel savings, the company not only expands access to financial services for students but also instils a sustainable financial mindset,” said Adhika. Regionally, East Java Province is the largest contributor, indicating the broad reach and impact of this programme in various areas. “We believe that financial literacy must come with real access. Through Mandiri SimPel savings, we are not just opening accounts; we are building the future orientation of the nation’s next generation,” said Adhika. As a strategic partner of the government, the company ensures that every financial access is accompanied by improved literacy. Throughout 2025, the company has held financial literacy programmes at Musamus University in Merauke and Gorontalo State University, reaching more than 1,000 students. In 2026, the “Mandirian Mengajar” programme has touched nearly 10,000 participants across various educational levels, with an understanding improvement of 47%, underscoring the effectiveness of consistent, measurement-based educational approaches. Furthermore, the company has introduced Reading Corners in 27 schools as an effort to encourage early literacy interest in educational environments, as well as distributing 267 scholarships for students in Indonesia and school supplies for pupils. From December 2025 to March 2026, more than 26,000 school bag packages have been distributed, including to disaster-affected areas in Sumatra, the 2026 Ramadan programme, and distribution across the operational areas of Bank Mandiri Bali & Nusa Tenggara. Subsequently, coinciding with National Education Day on 2 May 2026, the company targets the distribution of more than 2,800 school bag packages in 12 regions, expanding the impact of support for students’ learning readiness in various areas. “For Bank Mandiri, every first account is the beginning of a great journey towards a more directed, independent, and sustainable future,” said Adhika.
