PT Bank Mandiri Taspen, known as Bank Mantap, is targeting an upgrade to the Kelompok Bank Berdasarkan Modal Inti (KBMI) 3 category by 2028. Agus Syaiful Anwar, Head of the Strategic & Performance Management Department at Bank Mandiri Taspen, stated this will be achieved through organic capital strengthening, supported by consistent profit growth and a policy of retaining the majority of the company’s earnings.

“The plan is that by 2028, we will hopefully have moved up to KBMI 3,” Agus said during a media gathering in Denpasar, Bali, on Saturday. He explained that Bank Mantap had just been upgraded from KBMI 1 to KBMI 2 in April 2024. At that time, the company’s core capital had surpassed the minimum requirement of Rp6 trillion and is now approaching Rp10 trillion. “This serves as a foundation for us to continue strengthening capital towards KBMI 3,” he added.

Agus noted that from 2017 to 2020, business expansion was supported through rights issues, with capital injections from Bank Mandiri and Taspen. However, since 2020, capital needs have been met organically in line with the company’s improving performance. This is reflected in the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), which has reached around 30 percent, well above regulatory requirements and the banking industry average. The acceleration of capital growth is also supported by a dividend payout ratio policy of just 10 percent to shareholders, namely Bank Mandiri and Taspen. “Around 90 percent of profits are retained and reinvested as capital, thereby accelerating the accumulation of the company’s core capital,” Agus said.

The minimum core capital requirement to become a KBMI 3 bank is above Rp14 trillion. With core capital currently approaching Rp10 trillion, Agus is confident the target can be achieved by 2028 if performance is maintained. He expressed optimism that profits could reach Rp1.7 trillion this year, rising to Rp2 trillion next year and Rp2.5 trillion the year after. “So, we feel we are still very confident that we can move up to KBMI 3 by 2028 organically,” he stated.
