Bank Mandiri Taspen Assures Purwokerto Branch Services Remain Normal Amid Fraud Case
Bank Mandiri Taspen has assured that all services at its Purwokerto branch in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, are operating normally amid a protest by customers over an alleged investment fraud involving a former employee. “We respect the public’s right to express their aspirations while ensuring the comfort and security of all customers in conducting transactions,” said Corporate Secretary Tulus P Hutabarat in Purwokerto on Thursday. He stated that all banking services, including tellers, customer service, and ATMs, remain fully operational during regular business hours to meet customers’ transaction needs. The bank expressed empathy for the customers affected by the alleged fraud and confirmed it has reported the matter to law enforcement authorities, fully respecting the ongoing legal process. As part of its commitment to resolving the issue, Bank Mandiri Taspen has opened a service post to provide information and assistance to impacted customers, in addition to pursuing legal channels. The bank is also supplying necessary data and information to support the investigation and inquiry conducted by the authorities. Tulus urged affected customers to cooperate by reporting their experiences to expedite the resolution process through the Banyumas City Police and the Financial Services Authority (OJK). He also advised the public not to be easily swayed by unverified information and to always use official Bank Mandiri Taspen products and services for all banking activities. The banking sector is a heavily regulated industry, and all of the bank’s business activities are conducted in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations, prioritising good corporate governance, integrity, and the security of customer funds placed in official products. Meanwhile, dozens of customers who are victims of the alleged investment scam gathered at the Purwokerto branch to voice their aspirations regarding the case. The protest was secured by the Banyumas City Police, assisted by military personnel and the Banyumas Regency Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP). Police had previously named a former female employee of the branch, identified by the initials N alias D, as a suspect in the investment fraud case. She has been detained since 7 June 2026 and charged under articles of the new Criminal Code carrying a maximum penalty of four years in prison. On 25 June 2026, she was also named a suspect for document forgery based on a report filed by Bank Mandiri Taspen, with a potential sentence of six years. Police are also investigating potential money laundering offences, with estimated losses from over 100 victims reaching approximately Rp25 billion.
