Bank Mandiri Empowers 28 Villages Along Jogja Marathon 2026 Route
As a strategic partner of the government, PT Bank Mandiri Tbk (BMRI) is reinforcing its commitment to inclusive and sustainable development through the Mandiri Sahabat Desa programme, part of the Mandiri Jogja Marathon (MJM) 2026 series. This Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) initiative also marks the bank’s 28th anniversary, embodying a spirit of growing together with the community and delivering tangible benefits for the nation. Through this effort, Bank Mandiri affirms its role beyond financial services, contributing directly to improving quality of life by strengthening village infrastructure, empowering local economies, and enhancing social welfare.
Corporate Secretary Adhika Vista explained that, in line with the spirit of ‘Melangkah Bersama, Membangun Jogja’ (Moving Together, Building Jogja), the Mandiri Sahabat Desa programme will be implemented in the first two weeks of June 2026. The initiative targets 28 villages situated along the Mandiri Jogja Marathon 2026 route. Through a series of integrated activities, the programme aims to create growth value for the community while reinforcing a sustainable impact that residents can directly experience. ‘Mandiri Sahabat Desa is a tangible implementation of the company’s commitment to delivering accelerating growth and sustainable excellence for the community. Bank Mandiri believes that healthy business growth must go hand in hand with community progress,’ Adhika stated.
He noted that through this programme, the bank wants to ensure that the Mandiri Jogja Marathon is not merely an international sporting event but also delivers real and sustainable social impact for the people of Yogyakarta. A primary focus is strengthening basic village infrastructure by repairing roads in the 28 villages along the marathon route. This effort is expected to improve inter-regional connectivity, facilitate community mobility, support grassroots economic activities, and enhance the villages’ aesthetic appeal. Additionally, Bank Mandiri is constructing 28 village boundary markers to strengthen administrative identity, support orderly village governance, and make it easier for residents and tourists to recognise territorial limits.
The bank is also organising a Village Clean-Up Action involving communities across all participating villages. This activity aims to help maintain clean, safe, and sustainable tourism areas through community-based environmental management, contributing to collective awareness and the spirit of mutual cooperation in preserving the environment, a key asset for Yogyakarta as a natural and cultural tourism destination. As a form of social care, Bank Mandiri is distributing 2,800 basic food packages to underprivileged community groups, intended to help meet essential needs and strengthen the spirit of togetherness.
Furthermore, the bank is bolstering local economic empowerment through an MSME Festival involving around 60 micro, small, and medium enterprises domiciled around Prambanan Temple. They are given broader access to marketing opportunities, digital transactions, and business capacity strengthening to help them grow and become more competitive. ‘MSME empowerment is a crucial part of Bank Mandiri’s strategy to strengthen the grassroots economy. We continue to encourage the expansion of digital economic access through the synergy of the Mandiri service ecosystem so that local businesses can grow faster, increase productivity, and create a multiplier effect for the regional economy,’ Adhika added.
The Mandiri Jogja Marathon 2026 will take place on Sunday, 21 June 2026, in the Prambanan Temple area, Yogyakarta. Carrying the theme ‘More Than a Race’, the bank’s flagship sport tourism event combines an international-standard running competition with tourism experiences, cultural celebrations, social impact, and a journey through the beauty of Yogyakarta in one integrated series of activities. Through the marathon and the Mandiri Sahabat Desa programme, Bank Mandiri hopes to continue strengthening its contribution to driving inclusive development, expanding economic benefits for the community, and delivering sustainability that provides real impact for current and future generations.
