The Cyber Sub-Directorate of the Jambi Regional Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate has uncovered a cybercrime network responsible for emptying customer accounts at Bank Jambi. As a result of the investigation, police have named three suspects with the initials DD, TAS, and AA, who each played different roles in facilitating the crime. The three are believed to be part of a network that prepared dozens of bank accounts and cryptocurrency accounts, which were then used by the main perpetrator, a Bulgarian national, to hold and disguise the proceeds of the account breaches. The investigation revealed that the crime had been in preparation since 2025, involving the recruitment of dozens of individuals to open bank accounts and cryptocurrency accounts on various platforms. All of these accounts were then handed over to the main perpetrator in Jakarta before being used on 22 February 2026 to hold the stolen funds from 6,609 Bank Jambi customer accounts, totalling Rp144.82 billion. The funds were subsequently converted into crypto assets and transferred to wallets abroad within a matter of hours. The police have frozen assets worth approximately Rp18.94 billion suspected to originate from the crime. The suspects face charges under the Electronic Information and Transactions Law and the Personal Data Protection Law, carrying a maximum penalty of nine years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to Rp5 billion.
