Bank Jakarta Supports Sanitation Programme with Communal MCK Construction
Bank Jakarta has constructed communal bathing, washing, and toilet (MCK) facilities in Tomang, West Jakarta, to support the Jakarta Provincial Government’s Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) programme. These facilities are expected to improve sanitation quality and support the creation of a healthier environment.
The assistance, provided through the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, was handed over alongside the declaration of commitment to Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in Tomang on Monday (29/06/202lar).
The Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karno, stated that the declaration is an effort to encourage a clean, healthy environment free from open defecation practices. With the inclusion of Tomang, the number of sub-districts with ODF commitment status in Jakarta has increased to 194, or 72.65 per cent.
“With the declaration in Tomang, the number of sub-districts with ODF commitment status has risen to 72.65 per cent, or 194 sub-districts. This demonstrates that Jakarta can become a city that is not only economically advanced but also superior in environmental health quality and community welfare,” said Rano.
According to Rano, ODF status is not merely an administrative indicator but also reflects changes in community behaviour that contribute to reducing the risk of environmentally-based diseases, improving child health, and creating healthier residential areas.
He emphasised that this success must be maintained through collaboration between the government, healthcare workers, cadres, local community leaders (RT/RW), PKK, community figures, the business sector, and the public.
Rano also expressed his appreciation to Bank Jakarta for its support in improving public sanitation quality through the construction of communal MCK facilities.
The President Director of Bank Jakarta, Agus H. Widodo, stated that the construction of communal MCK facilities is a form of the company’s concern for improving public health quality, particularly in densely populated areas.
“This communal MCK CSR programme is a step for Bank Jakarta to be present in improving the lives and environment of Jakarta in a beneficial way,” said Agus.
Agus noted that synergy between the government, the business world, and the community is a vital factor in creating a modern, healthy, and competitive Jakarta.
“Support for this community sanitation programme is Bank Jakarta’s commitment to creating a sustainable social impact for the residents of Jakarta,” added Agus.
