Bank Jakarta Supports Sanitation Programme with Communal MCK Construction

Bank Jakarta has built a communal washing, bathing, and toilet facility (MCK) in Tomang sub-district, West Jakarta, to support the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) programme. The facility is expected to improve sanitation quality and support the creation of a healthier environment. The assistance, provided through the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, was handed over alongside the declaration of commitment to Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in Tomang sub-district on Monday (29/6/2026). DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno stated that the declaration is an effort to promote a clean, healthy environment free from the practice of open defecation. With Tomang sub-district joining the initiative, the number of sub-districts with ODF Commitment status in Jakarta has increased to 194, or 72.65 per cent. ‘With the declaration in Tomang sub-district, the number of sub-districts with ODF Commitment status has increased to 72.65 per cent, or 194 sub-districts. This shows that Jakarta can be a city that is not only economically advanced but also excels in environmental health quality and community welfare,’ Rano said. He added that ODF status is not merely an administrative indicator but reflects a change in community behaviour that contributes to reducing the risk of environmental diseases, improving child health, and creating healthier residential areas. He stressed that this success must be maintained through collaboration between the government, health workers, cadres, RT/RW, PKK, community leaders, the business sector, and the public. Rano also expressed appreciation for Bank Jakarta’s support in improving community sanitation quality through the construction of the communal MCK. Bank Jakarta President Director Agus H Widodo said the construction of the communal MCK is a form of the company’s concern for improving public health quality, especially in densely populated areas. ‘This communal MCK CSR programme is Bank Jakarta’s step to be present in improving the lives and environment of Jakarta in a beneficial way,’ Agus said. He added that synergy between the government, the business sector, and the community is a crucial factor in creating a modern, healthy, and competitive Jakarta. ‘This support for the community sanitation programme is Bank Jakarta’s commitment to creating a sustainable social impact for the citizens of Jakarta,’ Agus said.
