Bank Jakarta Director: Cybersecurity Optimisation Becomes Key Focus of Development Strategy
The optimisation of cybersecurity will become a primary focus in the digitalisation development strategy for banking. This step is considered crucial to ensure that operational systems, identification processes, and digital infrastructure remain relevant and capable of facing the increasing threat of cyberattacks.
Bank Director Agus H. Widodo stated that the development aims not only to drive growth in the regions but also to strengthen various supporting aspects, including data transport systems, identification, and protection against cybersecurity risks.
“Going forward, strengthening cybersecurity and various aspects of digital security will be part of the steps we will take next,” he said following a talk show titled “Shaping the Next Era of Indonesia’s Capital Market” at the Indonesia Stock Exchange Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (30/6/2026).
According to Agus, the company’s transformation is not solely focused on business development. The company is also building new fields and functions that specifically handle digital security aspects as part of its strategy to face the challenges of an increasingly digitalised banking industry.
He explained that this is a response to various issues arising from developments in information technology. With a more specialised function, the company hopes to improve risk mitigation while strengthening system security governance.
“So it is not just about business development, but also ensuring we have a field that can anticipate various issues, especially those related to cybersecurity,” Agus said.
Cybersecurity optimisation has become an important agenda for the banking industry along with the increasing digitalisation of financial services. Besides maintaining smooth operations, investment in security systems is also necessary to protect customer data and maintain public trust in digital banking services.
Previously, the national financial industry was assessed as still having strong fundamentals amidst various global economic challenges. However, changes in the business landscape and market behaviour mean that industry players must transform to remain relevant and achieve sustainable growth.
Bank Jakarta President Director Agus H. Widodo said that fundamentally, the condition of national banking remains in good shape. This is reflected in positive credit growth, strong capital, maintained liquidity, and a relatively low non-performing loan (NPL) ratio.
“The issue is not actually in the fundamentals, but that the playing field has changed,” Agus said during the talk show “Shaping the Next Era of Indonesia’s Capital Market” at the Indonesia Stock Exchange Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (30/6/2026).
In recent years, he continued, the banking industry has faced various unpredictable dynamics, ranging from the Covid-19 pandemic and global geopolitical conflicts to changes in international trade policy. These conditions mean that banks can no longer run their business strategies as usual.
Agus added that there is pressure on the cost of funds for banking. He noted that deposit interest rates in interbank auctions had touched 11.5 percent, signalling an increase in the cost of raising funds for the industry.
Facing these changes, Bank Jakarta is carrying out a transformation across various business aspects. The transformation covers strengthening the business model, service digitalisation, risk management, and corporate work culture.
