Bank Jakarta Builds Organic Waste Processing Facility in Rorotan, North Jakarta
Bank Jakarta is building a communal waste processing facility based on organic waste (biodigester) at Rusunawa Rorotan and the TPS 3R in Rawa Badak Utara Urban Village, North Jakarta, to support waste management in the capital.
Bank Jakarta President Director Agus H. Widodo said in a written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday that waste management is a shared challenge requiring cross-sector collaboration and consistency.
“The construction of the waste processing facility in Rorotan is a tangible contribution by Bank Jakarta to help address the waste management challenge in Jakarta. We want our TJSL programme to deliver real benefits to the community while supporting efforts to protect Jakarta’s environment,” he said.
The construction of the waste processing facility was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony at Rusunawa Rorotan, Cilincing, North Jakarta.
This initiative is part of the company’s Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programme and the implementation of Bank Jakarta’s Sustainable Finance Action Plan (RAKB) for 2026.
Through this technology, organic waste from households is processed into biogas as a renewable energy source, with residual output that can be used as organic fertiliser.
Each facility unit is designed to process up to 250 kilograms of organic waste per day. With two units being built, the total processing capacity reaches 500 kilograms of organic waste per day.
Based on technical assessments, the two waste processing units are projected to produce approximately 37.5 cubic metres of biogas per day.
In addition to providing clean energy, the facility is estimated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 423 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per day, or 154.4 tonnes of CO2e per year.
Meanwhile, Bank Jakarta Corporate Secretary Arie Rinaldi explained that managing waste at its source is key to creating economic and environmental added value for the surrounding community.
“Through the construction of this facility, Bank Jakarta is playing a role in managing organic waste at its source while encouraging waste to provide added value for the community. Collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is an important part of ensuring waste management efforts can be carried out in a more integrated manner,” said Arie.
The project in North Jakarta is a continuation of Bank Jakarta’s ongoing programme. The financial institution previously supported the construction of a similar facility in Pekayon Urban Village, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, which was inaugurated in November 2025.
In addition to reducing waste volume and emissions, the programme also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of clean energy, sustainable cities and settlements, responsible consumption and production, climate action, and partnerships for the goals.

The groundbreaking ceremony was also attended by Assistant for Economy and Development of the North Jakarta Mayor’s Office Wawan Budi Rohman, North Jakarta Administrative City Secretary Iyan Sopian Hadi, Head of the North Jakarta Administrative City Environmental Agency Edy Mulyanto, and Cilincing Sub-district Head Daniel Azka Alfarobi.
